3 Desserts

It has been quite a few days since I've had a chance to post anything... I found out that my laptop has some sort of virus that makes my email address send random links for Canadian Viagra to all my friends and/or coworkers.  Not a good thing.  Tonight I'm using my mom's computer.  It has a very big screen... so big I feel like I could just jump into it like a portal into another time or place.  Wouldn't that be fun?

So, spin class guy and I went downtown on Tuesday for a chat and a walk.  I had some iced tea, he had some ice cream.  We might be getting together this weekend for a beach picnic, which would be fun.  I'm hesitant to think any more about it, because I'm not quite sure how invested I want to be just yet.

On Wednesday night, my mom and grandma and I went out to the Looking Glass House, a new restaurant in Eureka.  It was really good food... I enjoyed it in spite of the fact that it completely sabotaged my calorie counting for the day.  Here are the desserts we enjoyed with coffee:

I had the chocolate mousse:

Mom had the chocolate torte cake:

Grandma had the key lime cheesecake:

Yum, yum, and yum.  I can personally testify that all three of these desserts were delicious.  I tried all of them, as much as my full stomach would allow.

And with that, a sweet goodnight.  Weekend, here I come!

Statues

So, drumroll please...

Spin class crush wants to go out!  He asked me if I wanted to go out and get tea or coffee...  He is so cute.  So we'll see.  I have to admit, I'm already trying to find reasons it won't work out.  Ugh.  Why am I so cynical?

Anyway, I'm looking through my New York trip pictures to find something I want to post tonight.  I went to NYC at the end of July with one of my fabulous friends, and it was such a wonderful trip.  I had so much fun.  Tonight's photos will be statues.  Have I mentioned I have a thing for statues?  I'll be reminiscing about Paris soon (my May 2009 adventure), and there were some awesome statue photos from that trip too.

Here are some of my favorites from my recent trip to the Big Apple:

at the Metropolitain Museum of Art

Love this one... just wonderful.

Marble head of a goddess
4th century B.C.

Found these near Radio City Music Hall... it was a pleasant statue surprise!

Goodnight all!  Happy Friday tomorrow!  Yaaaay!!

Dishes

Today was alright.

I did some dishes, and randomly decided to take pictures of them.  I don't know why.  It's fun to try and see ordinary things in a less ordinary way... find symmetry where it's not expected to be.

I like the way the light shines through the water in the cup in the second picture, and the repetition of the circle shape in the top picture.

I ate an eclair for dessert... it was 210 calories.  All in all I think I made it under 1800 calories today.  That's about where I need to be if I'm going to see some weight loss.  I have about 20 lbs. left that I'd like to lose.  Anyway... dishes.

My crush asked if I was going to be at spin class on Thursday... what does that mean?  He asked twice... why does he want to know?  Hmm... I guess I'll have to wait till Thursday to find out... the suspense is killing me!  Don't worry, I'll keep you posted.

Celebrity Dream Date

*Sigh*

I just love this guy... Chris Messina... so sexy.  If I could have one celebrity date as a dying wish, it would be with this guy.  I first saw him on Six Feet Under (awesome series, a must see from beginning to end) and pretty much fell in love.  I was literally shouting at Amy Adams' character Julie in Julie and Julia because I was so horrified by the way she treated her husband.  Just look at those eyes... smouldering smokin hottie pants.  He's in that newer movie too, The Kids Are Alright.  Going to have to rent that as soon as it comes out.  So, Chris Messina, if you ever break up with whatever fabulous beautiful tiny skinny Hollywood girl you are dating, look me up!

Dress Me Up

Found some fun things on Etsy tonight... I love that website.  I have a shop on there, but it's looking pretty sad right now because I let all of my items expire.

Work was pretty good today... a lot better than the beginning of the week at least.  We got whooping cough vaccinations yesterday, along with that was a tetanus vaccine.  And wow, ouch my arm hurts!  I used the vaccination as an excuse to skip the gym for the last 2 days.  I'm going to have to go tomorrow.  I just have to.

I am getting a little bit excited about Halloween... I bought a blonde wig, tried it on, and LOVE it.  I don't know what I want to be quite yet, but she's going to be blonde.  So continuing on that theme...

I am Aries, hear me roar

We all have our rainy days... today, it poured.

I should have known... my warning, courtesy of horoscope.com:

There could be some restrictions on your emotions today, Aries. You'll
find that a practical, grounded force is working against your
intuitive understanding of whatever issue concerns you. Do your best
to anchor yourself in the truth before you scatter seeds of erratic
emotions all over the place. It's important for you to maintain
stability at all times.

Gee, thanks horoscope.com.  So, it's "important" to "maintain stability at all times"?  I would have identified better with something like "it's going to be nearly impossible to maintain stability today, because of all the bullshit that will be flying at you from all angles at all times.  You will have to muster every ounce of strength to keep from bursting into tears at your desk.  Good luck."

Anyway, all this to say my horoscope was right.  Some "grounded force" was completely, stubbornly, fully at odds with whatever understanding I was trying to patch together.

Did I mention that I believe I gained nearly 8 pounds over the last 4 days?  Can this possibly be?  I think that may have put me in a hugely bad mood at the start of the day.  So, Tuesday Sept. 7, 2010, was a wash in my book.  Tomorrow will be better.

I wish I were 5 years old again sometimes.  My biggest worry was whether or not my doll's outfit matched mine.

Most Recent Memorable Meal

Ok so this is my last post for the day...

I just started daydreaming about my most recent favorite meals... so here it is, my most recent favorite meal:

At a pub off Madison Ave. in New York City:

Veggie quiche:

Coconut Passionfruit Mousse Cake:
(Can you believe how perfectly the sunlight falls on the plate?  Behold the mousse cake.)

This is a picture of the bar.  I didn't realize the bartender had looked over, and after I took the picture I hoped that he thought maybe I was texting someone, sideways.  I didn't want him to think I was taking a picture of him... the bar was cool though, and I was so into the restaurant and the fact that I was there that I had to take pictures of everything.

Anyway, along with this wonderful meal, I had two wonderful cold glasses of pinot grigio.  I've been drinking white wine lately, and I like it.  Ok, I'm done with posting now.  Going to continue watching Jersey Shore.

A Nice Weekend

Hello blog world!  This is my first post.  I anticipate that there will be more to come... depending on my level of motivation.

I decided to start a little blog because I like having little projects to work on during my off time.  So what's new in my life...

Well, first of all I'm counting calories.  Trying to lose the last 20 or so pounds.  I started in November 2009 and have lost about 55 pounds so far.  It's been tricky lately, I've been slacking on the weekends... this weekend was 3 days long, so it will probably register on the scale.  So that continues, and hopefully I'll have positive news to report in that area.  So far tonight, I've eaten nearly an entire baguette and finished off a block of chevre, among other things.  Yikes.

I haven't had a cigarette in 2 weeks.  That has been tricky too.  I've been chewing that Nicorette gum stuff, which is actually helping a little bit.  I think that's enough on that subject, because I've found that the more I think about it, the more I miss it.  That feeling will fade in time, I hope!

I started a small business type thing a while ago, crocheted crafty things that I like to make, pins and scarves and all kinds of things.  I call my little business Franny East... Franny is my alter ego.  She is the creative side... she does not get enough time out in the open these days, which is another reason I thought starting a blog might be a good idea.  That's why it's called "Franny's Favorite Things," a collection of all things Franny.

Here are two pictures from my fun Eureka weekend... the first one is from the Madaket harbor cruise on Saturday night... the sun was out and it was just perfect.

The second is a picture of me (in the shades) and my friend Emily at the beach yesterday. It was really a lot of fun.  Perfect weather, quite a lot of fun!

Well, happy Labor Day all!  More to come!

xoxo
